Irene Anna Davis, 88, of Moose Lake, Minn., died Wednesday, July 14, 2010, in Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet, Minn.
Irene Anna Davis, 88, of Moose Lake, Minn., died Wednesday, July 14, 2010, in Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet, Minn. She was born Aug. 16, 1921, in Moose Lake to Claude and Rose (Weske) Gould. Irene graduated from Moose Lake High School in 1940. Irene was united in marriage to Elmer John Davis on June 16, 1946, in Superior, Wis. Irene worked as a telephone operator for Wisconsin Telephone and Northwestern Bell in Rhinelander and Superior, Wis., as well as Moose Lake for a total of 17 years. She then worked as a cook for Mercy Hospital and Health Care Center in Moose Lake for a short time before becoming employed by the Moose Lake State Hospital as manager of the Federal Government Culinary Program where she worked for five years before being transferred to the State Hospital Culinary Department where she worked for 10 years, retiring in 1979. Irene was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Moose Lake, and a life member of the Ladies V.F.W. Auxiliary #2962 of Carlton, Minn. She enjoyed needlework, word puzzles, sewing, jigsaw puzzles, reading and watching the Twins.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; her parents; and great-grandson Joseph Wright.
Irene is survived by three daughters, Susan (Roger) Gustafson of Mahtowa, Minn., Peggy (Clifford) Thorson of Woodbury, Minn., and Linda (Tony) Faust of Grand Forks, N.D.; grandchildren, Rachel (Marty) Nelson, Scott (Amanda) Gustafson, Amber (Patrick) Bisek, Katie (Kenneth) Martinson, Eric (Dawn) Thorson, Lisa (Joseph) Funk and Tammy (Kyle) Olsen; great-grandchildren, Zachary Wright, Madeline, Gracie and Alex Nelson, Antonio and Dominic Martinson, Noah and Brayden Davis Bisek, Evan and Brooks Gustafson and Vincent Thorson; one brother, Eugene (Barbara) Gould of Renton, Wash.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 16, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service in Hope Lutheran Church, 204 Elm Ave., Moose Lake. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Moose Lake.
