Charles Vernie Nelson, 80, of Kerrick, Minn., passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Mercy Hospital and Health Care Center in Moose Lake, Minn.
Charles Vernie Nelson, 80, of Kerrick, Minn., passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Mercy Hospital and Health Care Center in Moose Lake, Minn. He was born Aug. 7, 1929, in Clear Creek Township, Holyoke, Minn., to Floyd and Mildred (Van Guilder) Nelson and graduated from Wrenshall High School in 1948. Charlie was united in marriage to Dorothy Holmstrom on June 17, 1950, in Kerrick. He worked as a carpenter all his life and built a cabin for Jessica Lange. Charlie enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking, and he was a member of the North American Hunting Club.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Nelson; and two sisters, Helen Kerwin and Betty Bartczak.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; six sons, Ted (Anita) Nelson of Kerrick, Terry Nelson of Nickerson, Minn., Tim (Vickie) Nelson of Aitkin, Minn., Lonny (Diane) Nelson of Kerrick, Kevin (Judy) Nelson of Willow River, Minn., and Robert (Jan) Nelson of Kerrick; two daughters, Cindy (Kyle) Rapp of Finlayson, Minn., and Doreen (Kent) Johnson of Kerrick; three sisters, Eva Erickson of Cloquet, Minn., Viola Sorenson of Holyoke, and Margaret Alexander of Salem, N.C.; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 17, from 11 a.m. until the noon funeral service at Nelson Funeral Care, 1004 Cloquet Ave., Cloquet, followed by a luncheon in the fellowship room. Interment will be at Nickerson Cemetery at a later date.
