Kathryn Elizabeth Jeffery, 87, of Carlton, Minn., passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010, in Duluth, Minn.

Kathryn Elizabeth Jeffery, 87, of Carlton, Minn., passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010, in Duluth, Minn. She was born June 22, 1923, in Duluth to Robert and Anna (Racic) Vrklan. Kathryn graduated from Cathedral High School in Duluth in 1942. She worked as a beautician for her brother Nick for several years and was united in marriage to Bill E. Jeffery on Feb. 2, 1948, also in Duluth. Kathryn was an active member and volunteer at St. Francis Catholic Church in Carlton. She also volunteered at the Pro-Life booth at the Carlton County Fair, enjoyed golfing, playing cards, taking cruises, living at Chub Lake, and spending time with family and friends.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; three brothers, Joseph, Emil and Nick Vrklan; and one sister, Mary Updegraft.

She is survived by one son, Fred (Jean) Jeffery of Duluth; two daughters, Annamary (James) Herther of St. Paul, Minn., and Barbara (Gene) Fulton of Cloquet; one brother, John Vrklan of Saginaw, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Sara Fulton, Sarah Reppe, Lisa Fulton, Elliott Erickson, Ingrid Renner, Madeline Jeffery, Gwen Jeffery, and William Jeffery; two great-grandchildren, Payton Reppe and Justin Fulton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family is grateful for the prayers and support of her many friends and the excellent care she received at the Miller Dwan Rehabilitation Center, which gave her many quality months to spend with her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Francis Catholic Church, Miller Dwan Foundation Rehabilitation Fund, or Minnesota Concerned Citizens for Life.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 14, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Carlton from 5-7 p.m., and will resume Thursday, July 15, from 9:30 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial, also at St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment services will be held at Hillside Cemetery followed by a luncheon and time of fellowship in the church social hall.
