Pastor Delbert Joel Grandstrand of Cloquet, Minn., formerly of Sunburg, Minn., passed away peacefully Saturday, March 13, 2010, in Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton, Minn., after an illness of several months.

Pastor Delbert Joel Grandstrand of Cloquet, Minn., formerly of Sunburg, Minn., passed away peacefully Saturday, March 13, 2010, in Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton, Minn., after an illness of several months. Delbert was born Oct. 16, 1929, in Stephen, Minn., to Albert and Edith Grandstrand. He graduated from Karlstad High School in 1948. On Nov. 23, 1951, he married LouAnn Rasmussen in Karlstad. Delbert farmed near Strandquist, Minn., for several years before moving to Cloquet in 1964, where he began his 45-year pastoral ministry at Sawyer Gospel Chapel. He served additional churches in Laurium, Mich., Chetek, Wis., St. Francis and Canby, Minn., Mitchell, S.D., and Sunburg, Minn. Delbert loved the Lord and was passionate about His ministry. He knew the Bible well and committed many scriptures to memory. He was a great conversationalist and loved farming, old tractors, and building things.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, LouAnn; five children, Ardys (Dan) Maki of Hancock, Mich., Mark (Judy) Grandstrand of Newcastle, Wash., Deb (David) Peterson of Cloquet, Loren (Dori) of Sultan, Wash., and Daryl (Dawn) of Lino Lakes, Minn.; 11 grandchildren, Joel Maki, Sara and Brett (fiancée, Ashlee Nichol) Grandstrand, Josiah, Micah, Jeshuah, Kyra and Kia Peterson, Khadija (Leon) Parent, and Ali and Kaari Grandstrand; two great-grandchildren, Raden and Adrian Parent; brothers, Dale (Beth) of Karlstad and Carl (Mary Jane) of Albert Lea, Minn.; sisters, Bernice Hultgren of Kennedy, Minn., and Grace Frei of Stephen, Minn.; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 18, in Cloquet Gospel Tabernacle. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
