Peter "Pete" L. Nelson, 67, of Barnum, Minn., passed away Sunday, March 7, 2010, in his home.
Peter "Pete" L. Nelson, 67, of Barnum, Minn., passed away Sunday, March 7, 2010, in his home. He was born Sept. 22, 1942, in Hibbing, Minn., to Lloyd and Mary (Pecchia) Nelson. He is a United States Navy veteran. Pete was an entrepreneur. He was the owner of Security Oil Company for 20 years and Cloquet Ford-Chrysler for 20 years until his retirement in November 2008. He was a member of Kiwanis and Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Pete enjoyed sailing, hunting, fishing, working in the woods and comradery with his friends and family. He loved his daughters and grandchildren and was a friend to all.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Stephen Nelson; and sister, Patricia Jorrisen.
Pete is survived by his daughters, Michele (Blake) Carlson of St. Louis Park, Minn., and Monica (Broc) Coen of Bloomington, Minn.; his daughter's mother, Judy Cox of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; brother, James (Jean) Nelson of Granger, Ind.; sister, Jayne (Tom) Saccoman of Omaha, Neb.; and four grandchildren, Peter, Victoria, Makenna and Arianna.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 12, at Nelson Funeral Care, 1004 Cloquet Ave., Cloquet. The visitation will resume Saturday, March 13, from 11 a.m. until the noon Mass of Christian Burial at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Inurnment will take place in the spring. A meal and time of fellowship will follow the Mass at Black Bear Casino in Carlton, Minn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Pulmonary Fibrosis Research.
