Harry Gilliam "Bud" Quinn, 86, of Bemidji, Minn., died Monday, March 1, 2010, at Neilson Place in Bemidji. Harry was born Feb. 17, 1924, in Florence, Kan., to William and Mable (Gilliam) Quinn. He grew up in Mason, Wis., and graduated from Drummond High School, Drummond, Wis., in 1941. After high school he attended Northland College in Ashland, Wis., graduating with a degree in chemistry and education. He met and married his college sweetheart, Elinor McPherren, on Aug. 4, 1952, in Omaha, Neb. His position with the Potlatch paper mill brought them to Cloquet, Minn., Brainerd, Minn., and Pomona, Calif., over the years, finally retiring in 1988 to Lake Havasu City, Ariz. Harry had a wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed photography, fishing and being in the outdoors. He also enjoyed football, basketball, playing golf and especially being able to watch his grandsons' sports.
He is survived by his wife, Elinor M. Quinn of Bemidji; children, Pamela (Walter) Smith of Gilbert, Minn., Tom (Carla) Quinn of Bemidji, and Janet Blunt of Meridian, Idaho; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and his sister, Evelyn Modeen of Orlando, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents and triplet sisters, Bernita, Juanita and Wanda.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 6, from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral service at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji, with Pastor Genelle Netland officiating. Casket bearers will be Bud's grandchildren, Donn Martin, Patrick Quinn, Paul Quinn, Adam Quinn, Steven Quinn, Kasondra Kingery and Krystal Kingery. A reception will follow the service at 3 p.m. at Windsong dining room. Interment will be in the spring in the Mason City Cemetery in Mason, Wis.
Memorials may be directed to a charity of choice in lieu of flowers.
