Arvo Wilhelm Lahti, 97, of Cloquet, Minn., died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, in Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet.
Arvo Wilhelm Lahti, 97, of Cloquet, Minn., died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, in Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet. He was born March 3, 1912, in Toivola, Minn., to Kustaa and Josefiina Lahti. He graduated from Hibbing High School in 1930 and attended Hibbing Junior College. On March 18, 1933, he married Lillian Kero. Arvo worked for Trico Service for 31 years. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Knights of Kaleva, Carlton County Oilmen's Association, Northwest Petroleum Association, and was a charter member of the Golden "K" Kiwanis. He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, woodworking, bowling, gardening, dancing, and spending time at the cabin.
Arvo was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, in 2006; son, Allan, in 1989; brothers, Toivo and Lauri Lahti; and sister, Lillian Sorvari.
He is survived by his son, Kenneth (Nancy) Lahti of Duluth, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Janet Nygard; brother, Edwin (Marian) Lahti of Meadowlands; sister, Martha Kiero of Duluth; grandchildren, Janet (Dan) Tolan, Elizabeth Lahti, Jay (Kari) Lahti, Jon (Jennifer) Lahti and Rebecca (Chris) Halvorson; and seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Matthew and Jenna Tolan, Stephanie and Darren Halvorson, and Jacob and Sarah Lahti.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 5, from 12:30 p.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral service in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cloquet. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow in the church social hall. Burial will be in Toivola Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
