Norman 'Gutshot' Nelson

Norman "Gutshot" Roy Nelson, 69, of Cloquet, Minn., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at his home.

Norman "Gutshot" Roy Nelson, 69, of Cloquet, Minn., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at his home. He was born Jan. 28, 1941, in Brevator Township to Alfred and Grace (Brooks) Nelson. Norman was a Vietnam Army veteran and worked as a logging trucker and was an operating engineer of heavy equipment for Union Local #49.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his life partner, Jean Ekholm; one son, Scott Nelson of Freemont, Calif.; one daughter, Dianna (Jeff) Beekmann of Carlton, Minn.; one grandson, Jacob Norman Beekmann; two brothers, Calvin (Sandra Karppinen) Nelson of Cloquet and Alva "Bubs" (Nancy) Nelson of Cloquet; two sisters, Delores Carter of Cloquet and Phyllis (Steve) Swerdlof of California; Jean Ekholm's children, Mark Ekholm, Laurie Bates, Bryan (Lucy) Ekholm and Diane (Tim) Isaacson; special friends, Robert and Pam Moen of Cloquet; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Monday, Feb. 8, from 2 p.m. until the 3 p.m. memorial service at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet with military honors presented by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. A time of sharing and refreshments will follow at the Cloquet Bar and Lounge.
