Ruth Catherine Wirtz

Ruth Catherine Wirtz, 85, of Esko, Minn., passed away Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Minn. She was born Sept. 3, 1924, in Ogema, Minn., to Andrew and Marie (Jasken) Haverkamp, and graduated from Wauben High School. Ruth was united in marriage to Raymond L. Wirtz on Nov. 5, 1945. She worked as a rural carrier for the Esko Post Office for 20 years and retired in 1985. Ruth was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Cloquet and the Daughters of Isabella, the National Rural Letter Carriers Association, and P.A.C.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Anton Reller, in 1944; her second husband, Raymond L. Wirtz, in 1998; son Thomas Reller in 2009; grandson Kristopher Wirtz; three brothers, George, Maurice and Burt Haverkamp; and two sisters, Elaine Johnson and Joan Larson.

She is survived by three sons, Daniel (Claudia Hendrickson) Wirtz of Cloquet, William (Karla) Wirtz of Esko, and Calvin (Mary) Wirtz of Esko; two daughters, Cathleen (Terry) Anderson of Fergus Falls, Minn., and JoAnn (Jay) Gamache of Cloquet; one daughter-in-law, Marty Reller of Esko; one sister, Dorothy Dudley of Loveland, Colo.; one sister-in-law, Lou Haverkamp of Ely, Minn.; one aunt, Minnie O'Connor of Arizona; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at Nelson Funeral Care, 1004 Cloquet Ave., Cloquet, with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m. The visitation will resume Friday, Feb. 5, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral Mass at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Interment service will be at New Calvary Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the fellowship room at Nelson Funeral Care.
