Philip Todd Annala, 38, of Carlton, Minn., passed away Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, at his home.

Philip Todd Annala, 38, of Carlton, Minn., passed away Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, at his home. He was born in Duluth, Minn., to Robert and Beverly Annala. He graduated from Denfeld High School in 1989 and attended the University of Minnesota Duluth and the University of Wiscsonsin Superior. On Aug. 29, 1998, he married Stephanie Ann Olson.

Phil was an engineer for the Cloquet Terminal Railroad and loved his job. He was active in the UTU and held the position of union representative for his fellow trainmen. He was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church.

He was an avid outdoorsman who thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, four wheeling and snowmobiling. Phil was a talented carpenter and his distinct craftsmanship will live on in many area structures. He had an infectious smile and laugh, and was often the life of the party. He was a kind and generous friend who was always willing to help out. Phil was a caring dad who loved spending time and sharing his passion for the outdoors with his children.

Phil was preceded in death by his grandparents.

He is survived by his wife, Stephanie; children, Merideth and Vaughn at home; parents, Robert and Beverly Annala; sister, Jennine Annala and her daughters, Jordan and Raynah; mother-in-law, JoAnn Olson; and brother-in-law, Dennis (Melissa) Olson and their children, Samantha and Jack.

Gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday, Feb. 3, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service in Bethesda Lutheran Church, 204 Fifth St., Carlton. A luncheon will follow in the church’s fellowship hall.
