Esther Anna McGuire, 100, of Cromwell, Minn., formerly of Duluth, Minn., died Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, in Villa Vista Care Center in Cromwell.
Esther Anna McGuire, 100, of Cromwell, Minn., formerly of Duluth, Minn., died Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, in Villa Vista Care Center in Cromwell. She was born Aug. 19, 1909, in Duluth to August and Edith Aho. She grew up in Tamarack, Minn. Esther worked at the YWCA during the early 1930s before she moved to California. There she met Edward “Mickey” McGuire and they were married on Oct. 30, 1939, in California. She worked as an inspector for Marshant Calculator. After her husband’s death in 1979, Esther moved back to Duluth, living in Panelle Park for more than 20 years before moving to Villa Vista in Cromwell in 2003. Esther was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell and was a former member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Duluth. She enjoyed shopping, talking, volunteering at the local soup kitchens, and spending time with family.
Esther was preceded in death by four brothers, Henry, Bill, Leonard and Art Aho; and four sisters, Betty Holm, Ellen Resso, Julia Beckman and Alice Hietala.
She is survived by one sister, Dorothy (Ray) Tiili of Duluth; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Villa Vista Care Center for their wonderful care of Esther.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service in Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Wright.
Memorials may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell or Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Duluth.
