Dale Ronald John Liupakka, 72, of Moose Lake, Minn., formerly of Esko, Minn., died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, in Mission, Texas, where he and his wife, Carol, spent winters.
Dale Ronald John Liupakka, 72, of Moose Lake, Minn., formerly of Esko, Minn., died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, in Mission, Texas, where he and his wife, Carol, spent winters. He was born Dec. 31, 1936, at home in Esko to Moses and Ida Liupakka. Dale graduated from Esko High School in 1954, attended the University of Minnesota Duluth and graduated from the School of Merchandise and Management in Detroit, Mich. He was president and co-owned Moses GM Center and Liupakka Oil Company until he sold his business in 1995.
Dale was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Esko for 30 years where he served as financial secretary, president, bible class and Sunday school teacher, and sang in the choir. After moving to Moose Lake he was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, again singing in the choir.
Dale was very involved in the community. He was a member of the Auto Dealer Council, Cloquet Kiwanis and Cloquet Chamber of Commerce, a Boy Scout leader, a member of the Esko Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, and a member of the Moose Lake Golf Club. He also delivered Meals on Wheels and sang for the Autumn Voices in Moose Lake.
Dale enjoyed golfing, reading, hunting, bowling, snowmobiling, skiing and more recently singing in The Ambassadors and playing shuffleboard and cards. Dale and Carol traveled extensively throughout the world. Dale was devoted to his wife and family and was a devout Christian and loved the Lord.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Moses and Ida Liupakka; brothers Bob and Sam Liupakka; and sister Ruth Liupakka.
He will be lovingly remembered by the love of his life for 52 years, Carol Liupakka; children, Peter (Liz) Liupakka of Minnetonka, Minn., Phillip (Cyndy) Liupakka of Cloquet, Minn., and Linda (Gordy) Sifferath of Centerville, Minn.; six grandchildren, Ann (Eric) Hattenberger, Kevin Christy, Brittany Kimball, Andrew Kimball, Jake Liupakka and David Kimball; two great-grandchildren, Hazel and Ava Hattenberger; brother Frank (Jane) Liupakka; sisters Irene Robbins, Milly (Chester) Haataja, Leona Liupakka, Carol (Jim) Rice and Mary Maher; sister- and brother-in-law, Janis (Tom) Mowbray and Jack (Lee) Hagadorn; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held Friday, Dec. 18, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service in Hope Lutheran Church, Moose Lake. Pastor Jim Swanson will officiate. Private inurnment will be held at a later date.
