Kathleen "Kate" (Fox) Johansen, 82, of Cloquet, Minn., died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at the Sunnyside Healthcare Center in Cloquet.
Kathleen "Kate" (Fox) Johansen, 82, of Cloquet, Minn., died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at the Sunnyside Healthcare Center in Cloquet.
Kate was born Sept. 25, 1927, in Cloquet, to Daniel and Myrtle (Gillespie) Fox. She graduated from Cloquet High School in 1945. She graduated from the Duluth State Teacher's College in 1947 and worked as a teacher at Jefferson and Leach Elementary schools in Cloquet from 1948 to 1960. She married Freeman Johansen on July 29, 1950, at the Presbyterian Church of Cloquet.
Kate was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Cloquet where she sang in the choir as a young woman and also taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Presbyterian Women, the Order of Eastern Star, Friday Club, the Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Cloquet American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW of Cloquet Auxiliary.
Kate is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Freeman; daughter, Brenda (Warren "Bun") Carlson of Cloquet; son, Daniel (Laurel) Johansen of St. Paul, Minn.; grandchildren Alexa and Kelly Carlson of Cloquet; Jack and Grace Johansen of St. Paul; sisters, Shirley Brattlof of North Oaks, Minn., and Phyllis Wahtera of Cloquet; brother-in-law Thomas (Ruth) Johansen of Woodbury, Minn.; sister-in-law Janice Serstock of Bloomington, Minn.; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the dedicated staff at the Sunnyside Health Care Center for their loving care of Kathleen.
Memorial Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Presbyterian Church of Cloquet, 47 Fourth Street. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the Presbyterian Church of Cloquet. The family has selected Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet to assist with arrangements.
