Patrick Anthony Wippler, 59, of Saginaw, Minn., passed away at 8:17 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, in the Solvay Hospice House, Duluth, Minn., after a gallant battle with a brain tumor.

Patrick Anthony Wippler, 59, of Saginaw, Minn., passed away at 8:17 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, in the Solvay Hospice House, Duluth, Minn., after a gallant battle with a brain tumor. He was born in 1949 in Little Falls, Minn., the son of Albert and Josephine Wippler, was raised on a farm in Randall, Minn., and attended a country school in Darling Township and Dr. S.G. Knight School in Randall. Pat was a 1967 graduate of Little Falls High School and was a 1972 Industrial Technology graduate of Bemidji State University. In 1980, he graduated from U of M with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Pat married Diane Wittner on Nov. 24, 1972, in Cass Lake, Minn.

Pat worked as a Project Engineer for Conwed Corporation from 1973-1985. He then was a Manager of Manufacturing Engineering for Diamond Brands/Alltrista from 1987 until his retirement in 2003. Patrick was also excellent with his hands, building his home, making furniture, carpentry, remodeling and cabinetry work.

He was a member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Pike Lake, Minn., served on the board of Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital from 1989-1998. He bowled on the Conwed and Sportsman Leagues this year bowled with an average of 215. Pat was a former member of the Knights of Columbus in Cloquet, Minn. Pat enjoyed restoring classic automobiles, woodworking, bowling, traveling and reading to his granddaughters. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowshoeing, and golfing.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Wippler; maternal grandparents, Joseph and Helen Schmidt; paternal grandparents, George and Evelyn Wippler and granddog, Yoda Wippler.

Pat is survived by his wife, Diane, of Saginaw; two sons, Erik (Kristy) Wippler of Canton, Mich., and Dr. Ryan (Phuong) Wippler of Council Bluffs, Iowa; two granddaughters, Amelia and Jenna Wippler; his mother, Josephine Wippler of Little Falls; five sisters, Evelyn (Dale) Seals of Hale, Mo., Jean Bukosky of Minnetonka, Minn., Rebecca (Richard) Johnson of Proctor, Minn., Donna (Bud) Wolch of Little Falls and Mary (Brad) Neururer of Federal Dam, Minn., and a brother, Steven (Vivian) Wippler of Gulf Breeze, Fla.

Visitation was Sunday, Nov. 8, with a 7 p.m. Prayer Service in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Visitation continued Monday, Nov. 9, from 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, Pike Lake. Burial will be in Solway Cemetery.
