Helen Vestin Nygard, 92, of Cloquet, Minn., died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, in Sunnyside Health Care Center in Cloquet.
Helen Vestin Nygard, 92, of Cloquet, Minn., died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, in Sunnyside Health Care Center in Cloquet. She was born Sept. 26, 1917, in Minnedosa, Manitoba, Canada, to Nils and Wilhelmina Vestin. Her family moved to Cloquet in 1928 and Helen graduated from Cloquet High School in 1935. During World War II she was an aircraft communicator. In 1946 she married Harold Nygard in Cloquet. Helen worked as a nurses’ aide at the Cloquet Hospital for 12 years. Helen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and it’s Sarah Circle. She enjoyed reading, bowling and golfing.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; daughter, Barbara Wilson; brothers Harold and Carl; and sister, Hildur Vestin.
She is survived by her brother Ernest Vestin of Scanlon and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, in Hillcrest West Cemetery in Cloquet.
Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or to a charity of your choice.
