Melvin “Mack” E. McGrane, 84, of Cloquet, Minn., died Friday, June 19, 2009, in Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Cloquet.

Melvin “Mack” E. McGrane, 84, of Cloquet, Minn., died Friday, June 19, 2009, in Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Cloquet. He was born March 30, 1925, in Wolf Lake, Minn., to Richard and Ida McGrane. Mack married Betty Ingram on Dec. 5, 1953. Mack was a United States Army veteran serving his country for 22 years. During World War II he was stationed in Europe. He also served in Alaska, Germany, Fort Bragg, N.C., Korea and Italy. After his retirement from the Army, Mack worked in Civil Service in Alaska. He retired in Florida and most recently moved to Cloquet. Mack loved to hunt, fish and play the fiddle.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, in 2000.

Mack is survived by two children, Sandra (Nathaniel) Mindeck of Westerly, R.I., and Michael McGrane of Maryland; his sister, Grace (Robert) Bader of Cloquet; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, in Maple Grove Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard.
