Ben and Chris VanLierop had precious cargo when they shot up to Central High School on June 30, 1992 — 10-week old Johan. “It was scary,” Chris said Friday from her home in Hopkins, a Minneapolis suburb, when recollecting a long day spent in the school gym as parts of the city were evacuated after a benzene spill. “It was a beautiful summer day and we had to close all the windows and get up there,” Chris said. She’s a native of Duluth and the trio had just returned to her parents’ home in Congdon Park after living in Japan. Today, 20-year-old Johan is doing fine, the couple reported. (News Tribune file)
