Raymond 'Hopper' HoppRaymond "Hopper" D. Hopp, 68 of Wrenshall, Minn., passed away on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013. He was born in Cloquet, Minn., on Sept. 13, 1945, to Robert and Mary Jane (Dinan) Hopp. Ray graduated from Wrenshall High School in 1963. He married Mary Jane Grover on Feb. 26, 1966. Ray started his career as a union millwright and eventually became a regional sales manager for Castrol/British Petroleum where he spent many days on the road at taconite mines in Northern Minnesota and Michigan. He also served in the Army National Guards in Cloquet. Ray loved to drink a Hamm's beer while working in his garage on projects. The project he was most proud of was a full restoration of a 1970s Carver Cabin Cruiser boat. At the age of 55 Ray chose an early retirement so that he could spend more time fishing. He spent his summers at Long Point Resort on Lake of the Woods were he caught walleye like some of the best guides on the lake. "Hopper" enjoyed taking others fishing, especially children. He loved to share his passion, and fishing stories, with everyone. When the fish weren't biting he would say, "That's fishing."
