George Allen RoddGeorge Allen Rodd, 85, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013. He was born on Jan. 17, 1928, to Franklin Allen Louis Rodd and Thelma Dora (Stanton) Rodd. George grew up in Portage, Ind., and moved to Cloquet, Minn., prior to his senior year in high school. He graduated from Cloquet Senior High School in 1946. George served two years in the U.S. Army from 1946-1948. During his service in the Army, George was selected to play on the Army baseball, boxing and fastpitch softball teams. Following his time in the Army, George returned to Cloquet and boxed as an amateur in Golden Gloves boxing, amassing an overall record of 30-3. George played for numerous fastpitch teams in Cloquet as well as for Cloquet City League teams in baseball and basketball. George married Arlene Mae Orth on Aug. 4, 1951, at the Presbyterian Church in Carlton. Among his greatest joys was watching the accomplishments of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan who never missed the chance to watch his favorite team.
