Carlton County turns 150Last Wednesday marked a momentous occasion in Carlton County that managed to slip by practically unnoticed – but not quite. One hundred-fifty years ago on May 23, the Minnesota legislature gave permission for the formation of Carlton County. Though the final legislation legally establishing Carlton County was not actually enacted until 1870 (the wheels of government turned slowly even back then!) – putting the county’s official sesquicentennial in the year 2020 – members of the Carlton County Historical Society were determined not to let the date pass unnoticed.
