Daniel, no I was contemplating what the liablity insurance cost is with the STS program. Regardless of whether there are problems or not. I don't disagree that the program is beneficial. Give the inmates something to do while incarcerated. Their work done, through STS, benefits us all.

KG What are you saying? I do not understand what you refering to. I do not or have ever run a sts crew but have done crews for 20 years that are alike in many ways. In that time we had no injuries, accidents, fights or law suites. In most lock ups you have daily conflicts and injuries. Locking people up is costly to all parties and when they get out they will never have a living wage job because of their record. Do you feel safe when you realize that most of the people who are being release have no hope. At lease in the sts program they may learn some skills and develope some work habits that allow them to develope their self-esteem.

I would think the State's Insurance liability for STS is astronomical, as well.

Work crews are cost effective because you have a staff client ratio that is unmatched. Replacement to another program will cost tax payers more in the end. The men that run the STS are skilled on many levels and have been doing this job for many years. The governors flick of his pen will wipe out 20 plus years of program development and impact many lives. After all that just think of all the people that depend on these crews. Maybe the tea party people will pick up the slack, ha!
