The AlBrook Falcon girls softball team lost head coach Steph Sklors about two months ago when Sklors resigned to take the head job in Cloquet. Last week the administration hired Tim Anvid to become the first new coach in seven years at AlBrook.

“We have a lot of work to do and I need get to know the girls,” said Anvid. “We have a lot of catching up to find out exactly what positions the girls play and where they feel comfortable playing.”

Anvid, who played for a decade in the Woodland Fastpitch League in Duluth, knows the game and knows what it will take to make the Falcons a contender.

“We definitely need to work on the basics and find some pitching,” commented Anvid. “I look at it as a wonderful challenge. It won’t be easy, but we will give it a heck of a try.”

The Falcons are one of the smallest schools in northern Minnesota and they will face a daunting task come playoff time, but Anvid plans on working hard to get his team ready.

“We will work on pitching, hitting, fielding and all the basics,” stated Anvid. “If you can’t do the basics you don’t have a chance of winning anyway.”

Anvid will be joined by Jody Colello and Earl Otis who have both assisted in the program in the past.

“We’ll have a lot of things to get busy with right away,” mentioned Anvid. “The biggest thing we have to do is learn the girls and find out exactly what we have in order to form a team.”
