A Superior police sergeant was stripped of his rank following an internal investigation into events surrounding his arrest in connection with an incident in Carlton County.

Dan Hawkin II, 44, was arrested following an incident involving his girlfriend. Hawkin had been accused of punching his girlfriend.

Originally charged with fifth-degree domestic assault, Hawkin pleaded guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct Monday in Carlton County District Court.

Because of the internal investigation, Police Chief Floyd Peters said he suspended Hawkin without pay for two weeks and demoted him to the rank of officer. He also was placed on a two-year last-chance agreement.

Hawkin had been on paid administrative since the Jan. 23 incident as required by state law and department policy.
