The St. Louis River Alliance (SLRA) will hold its 2013 Canoe Tour and Picnic on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This year’s event will be held in the city of Cloquet and will begin and end on Dunlap Island Park, located on the St. Louis River, just off of Highway 33.
This is a great opportunity for both experienced and non-experienced canoeists/kayakers to explore the wonderful outdoors right in our own backyard. The tour will include historical sites along the St. Louis River in Cloquet. Many of these are just remnants of what used to be there decades ago. It’s a great way to learn more about how the St. Louis River shaped many of the communities along it.
The cost to participate in this year’s event is only $5 for SLRA members (or $20 for the whole family.) Non-members can sign up for only $10 per person ($30 for a family). Children under 12 are free, but must be accompanied by an adult.
A limited number of canoes and kayaks are available, free of charge, for those who don’t have one. Register early to reserve one.
More details about the event and a registration form is available on the SLRA website, www.stlouisriver.org, or call 218-733-9520.
