To the Editor:
I am writing to tell [the city of Carlton] how fantastic you are. I am the director of the Colombian soccer group that stayed at UMD Tuesday, July 9, to Sunday, July 14, before heading to Blaine, Minn., on Sunday, July 14, to participate in the USA Youth Soccer Cup.
My sister, Mary, who lives in Duluth, became my event planner/coordinator for our week in Duluth. She reports meeting some awesome folks throughout the months she researched and planned the week’s activities for us.
Today I was speaking with one of the coaches who just got back from his bike trip from Carlton to Jay Cooke State Park — one of the activities we were treated to this week. Joelene Steffens of Carlton Bike Rental and Repair, the rangers at Jay Cooke State Park and many Carlton volunteers and city staff went way out of their way to make sure the experience these kids had was interesting, fun and safe. This coach was very impressed by how much people in this area care about what they do and how they do it. I am a Minnesotan who has lived in Colombia for many years, but I love to hear people say that about the land where I am from. It makes me proud and happy.
Good job everyone and know that your efforts have made a difference in the minds of the Colombian visitors and we hope to be back sometime soon.
Director PCT Colombia
