Cloquet Police detectives have so far had no tips leading to an arrest in an armed robbery at PJ’s Little Store, 203 Doddridge Ave. in Cloquet on Monday.
At 3:25 a.m., a clerk from the business reported to 911 that a male entered the business, brandished a knife and ordered the clerk to give him all the cash out of the register. The clerk handed over an undetermined amount of cash to the suspect, who then fled out of the store heading in an easterly direction.
No one was injured during the incident.
The suspect is described as a thin male, approximately six feet tall, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with dark stitching, blue jeans, white tennis shoes, black gloves and a makeshift white face mask fashioned out of a man’s undershirt.
A perimeter was set up around the business and a police K-9 officer was deployed in the search of the suspect, but lost the potential scent after approximately an hour.
According to Cloquet Assistant Police Chief Terry Hill, detectives and officers are continuing to follow up on potential leads in the investigation. He said the department received information from Pine County officials about an armed robbery that took place at a Willow River bar shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 4, and detectives are looking into it to see if any similarities exist between that and the one in Cloquet.
In the Willow River incident, two males wearing black ski masks entered the Corral Bar. One of the two was reportedly armed with a pistol, and they held the lone employee at gunpoint, demanding that she open the safe containing the day’s earnings. When the employee failed to successfully open the safe, the two hit her on the side of the head with the pistol. The perpetrators then robbed the employee and fled, according to the Pine County Sheriff’s Office. The employee was taken to Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake, where she was treated for lacerations and released. That case as yet remains unsolved as well, and anyone with information is asked to call the Pine County Sheriff’s Office at 320-629-8380.
The Cloquet Police Department is asking the public if they have any information about the robbery at PJ’s Little Store in Cloquet to call the Department at 218-879-1247.
Cloquet Police are being assisted by the Fond du Lac Police Department and Carlton County Sheriff’s Department in the investigation.
