Politics in Minnesota and the “Capital Report” announce that Sen. Tony Lourey (D) has won a 2013 Leaders in Public Policy award in the Public Policy Achievement category.
Lourey, along with State Representative Joe Atkins, is receiving the award for authoring legislation on the Minnesota Health Insurance Exchange. Before becoming law, the bill went through 18 committees, with hundreds of hours of committee hearings.
A program recognizing honorees will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at the St. Paul Hotel. The event is sponsored by the law firm Best & Flanagan.
First elected to the Minnesota Senate in 2006, Lourey represents parts of Carlton, Kanabec, Pine and St. Louis counties, including the cities of Cloquet and Pine City.
