Groundbreaking scheduled for new Esko sports facilitiesJune 20 will be a day of celebration as the community of Esko gathers at 6 p.m. Thusday for a ceremonial groundbreaking for new sports facilities.
What a difference a year makes. Last year, on June 20, people in Esko could do little more than watch in horror as the Midway River overflowed its banks, washing away the high school baseball field, flooding the hockey warming house and further damaging an already deteriorated football field. This year, June 20 will be a day of celebration as the community gathers at 6 p.m. for a ceremonial groundbreaking for new sports facilities.
Construction begins this week on the new, $2.7 million sports complex in Esko. Thursday evening, the community is invited to bring a shovel and join in the groundbreaking for the project, which was approved by voters last November.
The project will include a new football and soccer field, all-weather track, varsity softball field, upgrades to the varsity baseball field, six youth soccer fields and a multi-use facility that will serve as a hockey warming house, locker rooms, concession stand and storage space.
