MONDAY - APRIL 15, 2013
The Wrenshall Board of Education's regular meeting was called to order at 6:04 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2013 by Chair Powers.
Board members in attendance were Troy Powers, Deb Bryce, Matt Laveau, Renae House, and Janaki Fisher-Merritt. Also in attendance were Superintendent Kimberly Belcastro along with Principal Sue Frank, Business Manager Connie Skarbakka and Board Secretary Candy Christensen. Board Member Shane Kuhlmey was absent.
Additions or corrections to the agenda: Strike items #17 & #18.
MOTION by Laveau; seconded by Fisher-Merritt to approve the Agenda with changes. Motion carried.
MOTION by Fisher-Merritt; seconded by Bryce to approve the consent agenda. Motion carried.
Superintendent Belcastro recognized Deb Fenlason and the speech team for their outstanding participation. Special recognition to Chloe Swanson and Neil Porter for winning a position to partake in the state competition to take place Saturday, April 20th. A send off to wish them luck will be held.
MAP testing is underway but due to the weather was put on hold.
MCA testing starts tomorrow.
Business Managers report:
Provided a handout, with explanation of the preliminary 1213/2014 budget.
Community Ed Director's report:
Discussed the success of this year's Father Daughter Ball.
Attended a meeting today at the Carlton County Collaborative.
Received a Safe Route to School grant.
Discussed the cost of the Sr. class trip. There are 15 students going.
To-date, we have received 33 applications for the Administrative Assistant position.
Members from the Playground Committee were present to up-date the board members on the progress of their fundraising and to discuss installation plans set for June 12th & 13th.
A Letter of Intent was presented on behalf of Education MN-Wrenshall regarding participation in PEIP.
MOTION by Powers; seconded by Fisher-Merritt to accept the ABE proposal to be started and completed in June 2013. Motion carried.
Discussion regarding Jeff Menze and Doreen Laveau attending a MN Safety & Compliance training session for transportation.
Superintendent Belcastro, along with the Kindergarten teacher, Nicole Gilbertson and Anna Baciak the ECFE teacher, will attend the 2013 Early Childhood Summit in Duluth tomorrow.
Discussion regarding ESC Systems proposed security plan which is tentatively scheduled for completion in June. Motion was tabled.
MOTION by Laveau; seconded by Bryce to hire Kevin McKeever for evening 1.0 Custodial / Housekeeper position. Motion carried.
Discussion regarding bus purchase. Motion was tabled.
Discussion regarding student enrollment. We are 17 students down and an exit interview process needs to be implemented.
Discussion regarding incoming kindergarten students with suggestions on how increase enrollment.
Discussion regarding Kindercamp.
There will be a Special Meeting held April 22, 2013
MOTION by Laveau; seconded by Fisher-Merritt to adjourn meeting at 7:31 pm. Motion carried.
