Cloquet Police arrested a 64-year-old man on Tuesday after his wife reported he was drunk and had fired two shots from a gun.
Assistant Police Chief Terry Hill reported that authorities were called to a residence in the 2200 block of Kelly Avenue in Cloquet at approximately 10:32 p.m. after the report of a domestic disturbance. A woman at the residence said she had locked herself in a bedroom because her husband had been drinking and had fired a gun.
The woman told officers that her husband was still in the residence but she believed he had hidden the gun.
Officers attempted to make contact with the husband by phone, and a short time later he walked out of the residence and was taken into custody without incident. During the course of the investigation, officers were able to locate a revolver on the rooftop of the residence.
The husband is currently being held at the Carlton County Law Enforcement Center pending formal charging.
No one was injured in the incident and authorities said there is no evidence that the gun was at any time pointed at anyone. Hill reported that detectives were canvassing the neighborhood on Wednesday to determine if anyone saw or knew anything of the incident. He said some did report that they heard pops or bangs the night of the incident.
“We are not 100 percent certain at this time,” said Hill, “but it appears that the shots may have been fired outside the house. Detectives have not yet found any evidence of a gun being fired inside the home.”
The investigation is ongoing.
Police records indicate that authorities have responded to calls at that same address twice before — one for a domestic and the other for a 911 hang-up.
Cloquet Police were assisted by the Carlton County Sheriff’s Department, Minnesota State Patrol and Fond du Lac Police Department.
