Prep Baseball Roundup...Catching up with Carlton County high school teams
By: Tyler Korby, Pine Journal
Barnum (4-5) bagged back-to-back wins over Hill City and Polar League rival Wrenshall, snapping five straight previous losses.
Carlton (7-3) couldn’t surpass Polar League visitor Two Harbors last week, as the Bulldogs broke a former six-game winning stretch.
Cloquet (8-5) cancelled games with Aitkin Monday and neighboring Esko Tuesday, as the Lumberjacks — leaders of the Lake Superior Conference — haven’t gotten victory in over a week.
Esko (6-7) evidently is tired of the road, dropping three straight to Proctor, Hermantown and Deer River, including five of their last six. The Eskomos have had 13 away games, due to park construction.
McGregor-Cromwell-Wright (1-8) was walloped last week by host Nashwauk-Keewatin. The Mercuries’ only win is over Wrenshall.
Moose Lake-Willow River (6-4) wrapped up wins on Virginia and Pine City last week, as the Rebels have now won three in a row.
South Ridge (4-3) recently rolled past Cook County and Mountain Iron-Buhl last week, as the Panthers— playing all road games this spring — have won three of their previous four contests.
Wrenshall (0-5) was whacked by Polar League foe Barnum last week, as the Wrens remain winless in their first season returned to varsity baseball. All home events are at Chub Lake Park in Carlton.
