There will be several young folks confirmed at both Bethlehem and Bethany Lutheran churches on Sunday, May 19. Those being confirmed are Libby Bauer, Samantha Hansen, Deidra Horton, Taylor Lehti, Hannah Line, Spencer Meyer, Chelsea Morse, Zion Smith, Sawyer Strelnieks, Chelsea Swatek and Eli Warpula. May God richly bless these young people in their faith and futures.
The women of both of these churches also displayed the quilts they have been working on for the past year. These quilts were blessed and then they will be given to those in need such as Lutheran World Relief, the Union Gospel Mission and Damiano Mission.
Our community was again touched by the passing of friends we knew and loved.
Scott Allan Webb, 37, of Altoona, Wis., formerly of Cromwell, died Monday, May 6, 2013, in Fairview University Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn. A memorial service was held on May 11 at Atkins-Northland Funeral Home in Cloquet.
Theodore “Ted” Bruce Niesen, 69, of Cloquet passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 7, 2013. Ted worked at Arrowhead Blacktop in Cloquet for several years before moving to Cromwell where he worked as a maintenance man for the city of Cromwell. A memorial service was held on May 10 in Bethel Lutheran Church in Scanlon.
Our sympathy to the family of Henry Edward Ruotsalainen, 80, of Hoyt Lakes, Minn., who died suddenly Friday, May 3, 2013, at his residence. Henry graduated from Cromwell High School, Class of 1951. A service was held on May 9 in Aurora.
Our sympathy to Gil (Dawn) Kinnunen on the recent death of his uncle Oliver “Ollie” Kinnunen, 87, of Punta Gorda, Fla., who passed peacefully on May 8, 2013. He grew up on a farm and graduated from Cromwell High School. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on May 17, at San Antonio Catholic Church, 24445 Rampart Blvd., Port Charlotte, FL 33980.
The Eagle Lake Cemetery cleanup day is May 19 at 1 p.m. Please bring weed trimmers, rakes, etc.
Don’t forget to attend the Spaghetti Supper Benefit for Shirley Lund on Saturday, May 18, from 5-9 p.m. at the Barnum Fairgrounds.
The women of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wright will have a Rummage, Plant and Bake Sale on May 31 from 4-7 p.m. and June 1 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donations are encouraged and can be dropped off on Thursday, May 30, all day. Coffee and goodies will be served both days.
All senior citizens and interested parties are invited to attend an informational meeting on identity theft (“Everybody’s Possible Problem”) at the Wright Senior Citizens Center on Wednesday, June 5, at 1 p.m. The Wright Senior Citizens group meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 1 p.m. with a meeting and program followed by games, cards, dominoes, etc. They also meet on the other Wednesdays at 1 p.m. for games, cards and dominoes, etc. All seniors are welcome! Come see the remodeling that is also in process.
The AARP Refresher Safe Driver Course will take place at the Cromwell Pavilion on June 3 from 1-5 p.m. Call Kenny at 218-644-3442 or Lindsay at 218-644-3739 to register. There will be a limited number of participants, so please sign up soon.
Don’t forget to vote for our District 8 Lake Country Power director by mail. Danny Smith and Jim Huhta are running for director. The ballots must be returned by May 21 to be accepted and counted. Ballots may be cast in person at the annual meeting on May 22. Ballots were mailed out last week so you should have yours by now. The LCP Annual Meeting will take place on Wednesday, May 22, in Timber Hall in Embarrass, Minn., starting at 5 p.m. with a dinner and 6:15 p.m. meeting.
