The Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College softball program has officially finished the collegiate season this spring.
The Thunder, which originated in 2008, played just six games during March — all indoors — at the Minnesota Classic at the Rosemount Irish Dome, defeating only Anoka-Ramsey.
Third-year FDLTCC Athletic Director Keith Turner said Tuesday morning it was the lowest game total in the program’s history, as a glacially-paced winter created scheduling rearrangements and class conflicts with an already thin lineup of a minimum nine players under first-year Coach Laura Sylvester.
The Thunder, which didn’t play any games at their home field of Braun Park in Cloquet, did not play on the final day of the season Tuesday, as the postseason begins this later week.
The baseball program, coached by Cal Barr, has been more fortunate, completing 14 games this season, including their most recent action, a 20-2 loss to Vermilion in Ely on Monday afternoon.
Turner noted the chaotic weather has hurt the baseball team, too, while Barr added all of their home events were postponed.
Barr said his team plays Friday through Sunday in Grand Rapids for the Minnesota College Athletic Conference divisional postseason and bid to the state playoffs, weather permitting.
