The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund is seeking photos (preferably in uniform) of two veterans from Cloquet who lost their lives during the Vietnam War. The photos would be posted with their individual memorials on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund website.
The local veterans whose photos are being solicited are Allen Isaac Johnson (born Jan. 29, 1947), a private in the U.S. Army, and Gust J. Shalow (born Oct. 19, 1938), a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.
According to Vietnam vet Bob Ahles, many photos have already been posted, including one of Francis Lesli Setterquist of Cloquet, who died in North Vietnam on Aug. 8, 1968.
“There were 1,074 Minnesotans killed in Vietnam,” said Ahles, “and currently there are approximately 563 who don’t have pictures included with their memorials. I believe it is important to put a face with the memorial. I can’t do this alone, and I thank you for any help you can give in sending me photos.”
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial fund is the nonprofit organization that built the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Anyone who has photos of either Johnson or Shalow is asked to contact Ahles at 5522 W. Oakes Dr., St. Cloud, MN 56303, by calling 320-253-5304 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. The website is accessible at www.vvmf.org.
