Under the full snow moon
Poem and photos by Jamie Lund after snowshoe hike in Jay Cooke State ParkBy: Jamie Lund, Pine Journal
Muted voices murmuring
anticipation of
snow moon snowshoe hike
presentation.
A quiet crowd,
snowshoes under a full snow moon,
air humming with excitement.
Snowy paths,
peaceful woods,
red glow sticks mark the way.
Moon plays peek-a-boo
among the clouds
as the groups walk single-file
into the crisp white night.
Up and down hills,
over fallen logs,
past crackling fires of
winter campers.
Hikers howling at the moon.
Back at the center:
hot chocolate satisfies,
cheery fire warms,
under the full snow moon.
