Our sincere sympathy to the family of Derek Allen Mathias Burg, 27, of Kettle River who died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013. Our sympathy to the family of Robert “Bob” Lockling Jr., who died on Dec. 21, 2012, in Menomonie, Wis. His memorial service was held at Bethlehem Lutheran on Saturday, Feb. 2.
Mary Dahlberg celebrated her 101st birthday on Feb. 2 at Cardinal Court with a few family members and friends. She moved to Cardinal Court in June 2009, where she spends most of her time.
Art Jauss also celebrated his birthday on Groundhog’s Day at Cardinal Court. I think it was his 95th.
When you get a chance, stop in and visit our residents at Villa Vista or Cardinal Court. It really means a lot to the residents there.
For the past month, I have been the lay pastor at the Tamarack Presbyterian Church in Tamarack and the Round Lake Presbyterian Church near Round Lake. I serve the Tamarack Church on the second, third, fourth and fifth (when there is a fifth) Sunday of the month and then on the third Sunday at Round Lake. Services at Round Lake are at 9:30 a.m. and in Tamarack at 11a.m. You are all invited to attend either of these services and I do hope to see you there as I continue to serve them. Ron Staudinger will be at Round Lake and Tamarack on the Sundays that I am not there. Call me at 218-357-2385 if you want more information.
Can you believe that Lent is only a few days away? Ash Wednesday is on Feb. 13, with services at Bethlehem Lutheran at 7 p.m. and at St. John’s at 5:30 p.m. Services and soup suppers will continue on Wednesdays from then on. Easter will be on March 31 this year. Remember that Easter comes on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox.
Valentine Bingo will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Lunch will be served and everyone is welcome. See you there!
The next Wrong Days meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the fire hall at 7 p.m. We need ideas and volunteers to make the 48th Wrong Days a yearly event.
Please help Cromwell-Wright School raise money to fight leukemia. The elementary students will begin collecting money for Pennies for Patients starting this week through Friday, Feb. 22. There will be containers in each elementary classroom as well as the office for money collections. The goal is to raise $500 in the elementary school to receive a root beer float party for K-6 students. For more information, contact Megan Suek at 644-3737 ext. 4122 or msuek@cromwellwright.k12.mn.us.
Congratulations to the 2013 Homecoming royalty: King Justin Britton and Queen Kayle Johnson. A special thank you to everyone who made the 2013 Homecoming such a success, including the kitchen, custodial, administrative and teaching staff at Cromwell! Also a huge thank you to Beanie Randa, Pete Koenig, Seth Swartout, Tracey Goranson, Kim Suhonen, Shari Hutar, Brenda Korpela, Kathy Ramberg and Julie Hedin! We couldn’t have done this without YOU!
The Justin Bieber cardboard cutout is missing. This was used for Homecoming and has disappeared. This is a $35 value and we would like it back! If you happen to find this cutout, just bring it back to the school – no questions asked.
That’s all the news from Lake Visitaresident and hello to all the folks in Villa Vista and Cardinal Court.
