Wright-Cromwell News

By: Jennie K. Hanson, Pine Journal

Last week, a few folks in Wright saw the first robin of the year. Well, it was actually Robin Lake at the Black Jack Café on Jan. 26. Robin flew here from Indiana on vacation. When we told her that we saw the first “robin” of the season she shot back with: “I’m probably the only Robin that flies north in the winter!” We also have a robin that stays here all winter and she is Robin Larson.

Valentine Bingo will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Lunch will be served and everyone is welcome. See you there!

The next Wrong Days meeting will be Feb.12 at 7 p.m. at the fire hall. We need ideas and volunteers to make the 48th Wrong Days a yearly event.

Attention Class of 2013: Only 13 out of 26 seniors have turned in their wallet-sized graduation photograph into the senior advisor, Mrs. Brekke. Seniors that have not, please do so ASAP.

Parents of preschool-aged children: Early Childhood Family Education classes began Tuesday, Jan. 29, and will run through April 23. These classes are for children, ages 1-5, and their parent(s) or another favorite adult. Call Robin or Candy at 644-3716 ext. 4100 to register or for more information. New families are always welcome.

The first Friday of every February kicks off National Heart Month with a special theme, “National Wear Red Day.” Women and men sport their red sweaters, shirts or pins to help bring attention to America’s most vicious killer: heart disease. The truth is that heart disease is the number one killer of American women (and men, too!).

Wear red every Friday is also the mission of RedShirtFridays.org to show support for our servicemen and servicewomen. They are not a political organization. They do not care whether or not one supports or does not support our nation’s specific military missions. They care only about making our support of our servicemen and servicewomen known to our fellow Americans and the world. They are a silent majority that does not wish to remain silent anymore. They wish to let our servicemen and servicewomen know we support their sacrifice and that we will not forget them. Can we do this by wearing red every Friday? I hope you will join in this effort and show we care, too.

That’s all the news from Lake We’dlovemoresnow and hello to our snowbirds.
