Cloquet Public Library and the Arrowhead Library System will present a free presentation featuring photographs with historical and community significance from across Minnesota at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Cloquet Public Library.
Minnesota native and professional photographer Doug Ohman will take you along to his favorite locations from each of the six Minnesota Byways books, published by the Minnesota Historical Society Press. He will share the best photographs and stories from around the great state of Minnesota. The books include: “Barns of Minnesota,” “Churches of Minnesota,” “Courthouses of Minnesota,” “Schoolhouses of Minnesota,” “Cabins of Minnesota” and “Libraries of Minnesota.”
Ohman is a freelance photographer and a popular and engaging public speaker who has traveled throughout the Upper Midwest photographing historic architecture. His work has been widely published in magazines, calendars and books. The Minnesota Byways books have been co-authored with such noted Minnesota writers as Will Weaver, Bill Holm and Jon Hassler.
With degrees in both geography and history from the University of Minnesota, Ohman’s interest in these subjects has translated well to his work as a photographer. His photography talent is self-taught. Before becoming a full-time photographer, Ohman was operations manager at the Mall of America. In his presentation, he will tell how he took his passion for history and love of photography, combining them into a successful career.
This event is sponsored by the Arrowhead Library System and funded by money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. For more information on library events, visit www.cloquet.lib.mn.us and click on our Events Blog.
