Last week I asked if anyone knew of folks who have a birthday on 12-12-12. Well, a little birdie told me that there are several. So far, I have Carol Hutar, Rita Clark, Benjamin Hansen and Elizabeth Risacher. And what’s really special is that Elizabeth also celebrated her 12th birthday on the 12th.

Now we have to make it through Friday, Dec. 21, the “end of the world” according to the Mayan calendar. Well, as for me, I’m not worried. I predict that the day will come and go as most days do. And, if it doesn’t, no one will be around to say anything to me about this prediction anyway. If you do anything special for this day, let me know. Remember this is the first day of winter – Ray Lally’s favorite day. And that’s because from Dec. 21 ’til June 21, the hours of daylight get longer every day.

For the past few years, Ken Kangas has been putting up displays at the Cardinal Court to honor our Boy Scouts or veterans. Well, some of the stuff he had on display has disappeared. Two Boy Scout American flags were taken along with a very special army blanket that had many patches sewed on it. These patches were the kind that are given away or earned by Boy Scouts and their leaders. The blanket was taken from his truck while he was loading up the rest of the Boy Scout stuff. If you know where these items are, please return them to the Cardinal Court – no questions asked. It’s a sad day when a person’s private collection disappears.

You are invited to share in the farewell celebration for Pastor Tim and Vicki Homstad. Pastor Tim and Vicki will follow the lead of God to where?? We don’t know quite yet, but they will step down from pastoral duties at West Side Church on Dec. 23 and will remain in the area. The events of the day will be as follows: 10 a.m. regular church service with a farewell dinner directly afterwards at 1:30 p.m. and a celebration of 14 years of ministry at West Side Church followed by cake and coffee in the fellowship hall. You can come for part of the day or for all of the day, but please come and be with Tim and Vicki as we all move in to the next great thing God has for us all. RSVP to 218-380-3559.

The Farmer’s Co-op Store in Wright will hold their Annual Customer Appreciation the week of Dec.17-22. Stop in, enjoy a cup of coffee and goodies and then sign up for prizes to be drawn on Dec. 22. There is also a kids’ coloring activity, too. Every kid who colors a picture will receive a candy bar. These will be displayed around the store ’til Christmas.

Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell invites the public to “A Smoky Mountain Christmas: Change of Heart” on Sunday, Dec.16, at 2 pm. This musical/play performance will be put on by members of the congregation and choir. There will be a light fellowship meal following the performance. Free-will donations are appreciated. We hope you will enjoy this presentation, which speaks about the true meaning of Christmas.

It’s luminary time! The Cromwell Luminary Service will be held Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Pavilion. Memorial luminary bags are now on sale for $1 each. Please contact Walter or Beth Collman, Jeanne Weimer, Deb Templeton or Lindsay Lally to purchase your luminary bags.

Join the Chmielewskis at the Cromwell Community Center for a gala New Year’s Eve party, Dec. 31, from noon to 4 p.m. You will be back home before dark. Dinner will be served at noon, with dancing from 1-4 p.m. Prizes galore! BYOB – champagne and noisemakers provided. Call for your reservations at 218-372-3616 or 218-879-6029 (They need to know for food preparation). Cost is $22.50 per person. The New Year’s Baby arrives at 3 p.m.

Christmas Eve services will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran in Wright at 4 p.m., at St. John’s in Wright at 5:30 p.m. and at Bethany in Cromwell at 8 p.m. All are welcome to attend any of these services.

I recently subbed at the school in Cromwell and noticed there are now class photos of all the classes from 1926 to the present time. Up until now there were only class photos of the classes from 1957 to the present. Thanks to the Cromwell Area Historical Club for the donation of these photos and please take the time to look at them. They are up by the lunchroom hallway.
