In addition to nutrition education and health care referrals, WIC participants receive vouchers to purchase specific types of foods at participating grocery stores. WIC foods are iron-enriched cereal, milk, cheese, eggs, peanut butter, whole grains, fruits and vegetables, vitamin C juices and iron-enriched formula. Breastfeeding is encouraged and supported.

To qualify for WIC, you must meet income guidelines. The WIC income guideline for a family of four is $42,642 (gross). Check stubs and/or tax returns are needed to verify income. The amount of income a family can earn goes up or down depending on the family size.

Families may also qualify if a family member is enrolled in one of the following programs: Medical Assistance (MA), Minnesota Care, MFIP, Food Stamps, Fuel Assistance, Head Start, or Free/Reduced School Lunch.

Call the Carlton County WIC Program at 218-878-2853 or 1-888-818-4511 to find out if you qualify. WIC Clinics are held in Cloquet and Barnum.
