A special primary election for a vacancy on the Fond du Lac Reservation Business Committee held Tuesday, Nov. 27, failed to yield a winner with more than 50 percent of the votes.
As a result, the top two candidates will face off in a special election for the RBC District II seat now set for Jan. 29, 2013. The District II seat became open when Sandra Shabiash, 67, of Sawyer died on Sept. 14. She had served as the elected Sawyer District representative since December 2006.
Nine candidates ran in the special primary election to serve the remainder of Shabiash’s current four-year term, including Jodi Ammesmaki, Darwin Bishop, Geraldine Defoe, Wayne Dupuis, Blake Evanson, Russell “Russ” Northrup, Connie Saarsito, Bruce M. Savage and David Tiessen Jr.
Northrup and Tiessen got the most votes – Northrup with 44 votes (26 percent) and Tiessen with 33 votes (19 percent) out of 179 votes cast – and will proceed to the January election.
The winner will serve until 2014.
