Think your Thanksgiving preparations were chaotic?
Try organizing two community dinners (in Cloquet and Carlton) and training 150 volunteers to serve some 400 pounds of turkey with all the trimmings to
approximately 550 people.
It’s hectic, but well worth the effort, said Jill Hatfield, executive director of Volunteer Services of Carlton County.
“We try to advertise it as a community meal,” Hatfield said. “We get people who would be alone otherwise; others who bring their whole family for the community aspect and others who are in need.”
Surprises Thursday included an impromptu performance by Lorren Lindevig, which then prompted singing and dancing by several volunteers.
“I guess they had quite a festive vibe going on,” Hatfield said.
