Sarah Janina Janczak of Wrenshall has accepted membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS). NSCS is a member of the Association of college Honor Societies and is the nation’s only interdisciplinary honors organization for first- and second-year college students. Membership is by invitation only, based on grade point average and class standing. Janczak, a 2010 graduate of Wrenshall High School, is the daughter of Anna Janczak of Wrenshall and Ted Janczak of Esko.
Students from Barnum, Carlton, Cloquet and Wrenshall were among the region’s top high school musicians to gather Oct. 18 at the University of Wisconsin Superior for a day of advanced skill clinics and performances during the annual Tri-State Honor Band Festival. More than 170 Honor Band students spent the day working with UWS faculty embers and guest musicians and composer Noah Taylor. The musicians performed the world premiere of two pieces written by Taylor for the Tri-State Honor Band Festival. The musicians capped the day with a public concert featuring musicians from 32 high schools in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan along with UWS’ Symphonic Band. Students included Amanda Fisher, Elise Crowley, Tianna Fetters, Elsie Korioth and Erik Koski, all from Barnum; Haley Lunde, Justin Tischer, Chelsie Tischer, Michael Reed, Caylee Jones, Michael Goranson, David Coy and Spencer Walton, all from Carlton; Olivia Mayasich, Emily Olson, Carly Ritchie and Abbi Parenteau, all from Cloquet; and Emily Bartlett, Aaron Atkins, Marcus Virginia, Brittany O’Brien, Dustin Shelton, Brianna Wolf and Masen Virginia, all from Wrenshall.
