Wright-Cromwell News

By: Jennie K. Hanson, Pine Journal

It was nine years ago on Nov. 21 that my mom had a stroke and ended up in the nursing home until she died five months later. It’s still hard to believe she is gone, as it is with those who have lost loved ones in the past year or years. We still miss them so much and wish we could be together again. Now, my generation is the oldest in most families. So, if you still have parents or grandparents, you have another reason to be thankful!

We have been reminded lately that we need to try to shop locally whenever possible. Have you thought about giving gift certificates from our local stores such as our bookstore, hardware store, Co-op Store, gas stations, lumberyard, and/or restaurants? These can be used at their convenience and will benefit our local businesses. Another idea is to have folks over for a meal, or take them out for a meal. It’s the time to share our good wishes in creative ways. And, don’t forget those in nursing homes, etc. Even a card will help cheer them at this time of year. A book of stamps would be a great gift idea, too. You can stop in the post office and see the news stamps for Christmas. They are really neat.

Congratulations to Judy (Beck) Isaacson who was recently honored with the “Excellence in Court” Award. The Minnesota Association for Court Management (MACM) announced the recipients of its 2012 awards at its annual meeting in October 2012. Judy was among the top three honored as court administrator in Carlton County’s Sixth Judicial District.

Our sympathy to the family of Edna Murto, 85, who died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012. She was very active in Friends of Animals in Carlton County and also helped our local Area Clothing Depot when she could. In fact, when the Friends of Animals had their annual rummage sale in Cloquet, she arranged for most of the unsold items to be given to our Clothing Depot. She will be missed for her friendship and community activism.

The Third Annual Christmas Brunch and Bake Sale will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran on Dec. 8 from10 a.m. to noon. There will be many new and gently used items for sale, craft items, silent auction, baked goods, and most of all, the brunch.
