John Manton Upton Thompson
John Manton Upton Thompson, 79, of Moose Lake, Minn., died Nov. 22, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake. He was born Aug. 20, 1933, at Mahtowa, Minn., the only son born to Roy and Ida Thompson. John graduated from Cloquet High School in 1952. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Mississippi, Florida and Alaska. John was employed at Chief Theater in Cloquet, First National Bank in Cloquet, the Art Institute and Hornblower and Weeks in Chicago. He returned to Duluth, Minn., where he was employed by the Marine Museum and The Depot. John was a member of the Swedish Cultural Society, Carlton County Historical Society, and was a board member of the Food Shelf. He lived in Moose Lake after retirement.

John was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Agnes Inez Cutler.
He is survived by three sisters, Dorothy Lisignoli of Cloquet, Sharon (Ken) Plante of Cloquet, and Karen Dixie (Harry) Dannen of Ogden, Iowa, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Cloquet at a later date.
