Wright-Cromwell News

By: Jennie K. Hanson, Pine Journal

As I sit down this morning, Nov. 12, to type the news, I am in Hendersonville, Tenn., at the home of my niece Heidi and her family. I arrived here on Nov. 7 and will be here until Jan. 14 when I drive back to Indiana to pick up my friend who rode down with me in the first place.

I see by the recent Bus Bulletin that the School Board will have four new members come January. Here are the results: The uncanvassed results per the Minnesota Secretary of State Website are as follows: School Board Member-Elect 3: Angela Lind Anderson – 491, Tim Hakamaki – 485, Lance Line – 381, Walter Collman – 368, Steve Risacher ¬–367, and Write-In-16. Special Election for School Board Member-Elect 1: Loran Shelton – 483, Rod Walli – 314, and Write-In – 7.

I want to personally thank all the board members who are going off the board this time. Your time and talents have been deeply appreciated over the years. It isn’t easy dealing with both peoples’ children and/or their money. Now, we have to support the new folks coming on and they also have to listen to the opinions of their constituents.

A Veteran’s Day Celebration was held Monday, Nov. 12, under the flagpole in front of our school. Area veterans and their families were invited attend the flag ceremony as well as to enjoy coffee and goodies in the cafeteria immediately following the ceremony. Elementary students entertained those in attendance with a brief program in the cafeteria as well. This is a time we cherish in honoring all those who have served and are serving our country. Thank you, veterans!

Kids Voting gets students involved and ready to be educated, engaged citizens. Students learn about democracy through a combination of classroom activities, family dialogue and an authentic voting experience. The results of that student mock election are as follows: President: Mitt Romney 128, Barack Obama 134; Senator: Kurt Bills 114, Amy Klobuchar 132; and Congress: Chip Cravaack 132, Rick Nolan 113. And just for fun, the kids voted for the three top lunch choices, too. Lunch: spaghetti 91, popcorn chicken wrap 93, taco salad 81.

The third annual Breakfast Bazaar will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be many new and gently used items for sale, baked goods, and most of all the breakfast, serving egg bake, muffins, juice, coffee, etc. Lots of good fellowship, too.
