Local athletes named Wendy’s Heisman state finalists
Three Carlton County scholar-athletes were among Minnesota’s top 20 scholar-athletes named as finalists in the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award program.
Three Carlton County scholar-athletes were among Minnesota’s top 20 scholar-athletes named as finalists in the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award program. Of the 45,000 seniors who applied nationwide, 496 came from Minnesota and were narrowed down to the state’s 20 finalists in the running to become state winners.
Marisa Shady of Esko (Esko High School), Brooke Camps of Barnum (Carlton High School), and Zachary Veno of Carlton (Carlton High School) were named to the top 20 finalists for the prestigious award.
On Nov. 5, Riley Hanson of Nevis High School was named state winner. Of all state winners, 12 will be chosen as national finalists and go on to compete for the national title in New York City on Dec. 7.
