Nine candidates are running in a special election to fill a vacancy on the Fond du Lac Reservation Business Committee.
The District II seat became open when Sandra Shabiash, 67, of Sawyer died on Sept. 14. She had served as the elected Sawyer District representative since December 2006.
Running to serve the remainder of her current four-year term are: Jodi Ammesmaki, Darwin Bishop, Geraldine Defoe, Wayne Dupuis, Blake Evanson, Russell “Russ” Northrup, Connie Saarsito, Bruce M. Savage and David Tiessen Jr.
The nine will face off in a special primary election Nov. 27.
Poll hours will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sawyer Community Center. If one of the candidates receives more than half of the votes cast in the primary, that person will be the winner and fill the seat. If no candidate receives more than half of the votes, the two candidates who receive the most votes will advance to a Jan. 29 general election.
The winner will serve until 2014.
