Carolyn Weisz

Carolyn Weisz, formerly of Plentywood, Mont., died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, in Carlton, Minn. Carolyn was born on Jan. 10, 1924, in Antelope, Mont., to Florence and Frederick Blackmore. She attended school in Antelope and graduated from Antelope High School in 1941. She attended Northern Montana College in Havre, Mont., for one year. She then moved to New York City to be with her sister, Lorna, whose husband was fighting overseas. When the war was over, Carolyn lived briefly in Spokane and Kalispell before returning to Sheridan County. She began work at what was then the U.S. Department of Agriculture ASCS Office in Plentywood. She met her future husband, Henry Weisz, a teacher at Plentywood High School, in the fall of 1947, and they were married the following June at Plentywood EUB Church. Carolyn stayed home to raise her two daughters and returned to the ASCS Office in 1965. She retired in 1986. Carolyn lost her husband in 1987, and she thereafter spent the winter seasons with her daughters who live in Minnesota and Kansas. Each spring she returned to her home in Montana. While in Minnesota in December 2008, she suffered a stroke and thereafter resided at Inter-Faith Care Center, a nursing home in Carlton.

Carolyn grew up during the depression and having been poor, she was made generous. She had a big heart for the needy and underprivileged. She supported many causes and was an active member of the Plentywood United Methodist Church (formerly EUB) all her adult life. She loved to read and spent many happy hours in her later years at the Sheridan County Library. She was talented with a needle, whether it be sewing, knitting or crocheting. The mailman's visit was a highlight of her day because she loved to get letters, and she carried on an active correspondence with her family and friends. When she bought her first computer, she was thrilled that the mail came at any time of day and many times a day.

Her cheerful disposition endeared her to many, including those who cared for her during her time at Inter-Faith Care Center. She was a faithful friend and a beloved mother and grandmother. Her sphere was small, but the ripple effect of her goodness has made the world a better place. She will be missed by her family and especially by her daughters all their days.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, two brothers and one sister.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen (Dan) Malkovich of Cloquet and Susan (Tom) Rosamond of Kansas City; grandchildren, Timothy Malkovich, Joe (Sarah) Malkovich, Ann (Tyler) Malkovich Haschig, Mary (Paul) Rosamond Kunnath, Rebecca Rosamond and Lily Rosamond; two great-grandchildren, Gus Haschig and Hannah Malkovich; four nieces and five nephews.

Carolyn's daughters would like to thank the staff at Inter-Faith Care Center and especially all the nursing assistants who so lovingly and tenderly cared for our dear little mother.

A memorial service will be held at the Cloquet Presbyterian Church on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 1 p.m.

Memorials are preferred to the Plentywood United Methodist Church, the Sheridan County Library, and Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton.
