A Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College football player was arrested in Georgia earlier this month.
James Victor Griffin, 18, was charged with possession of marijuana, driving under the influence of drugs and failure to maintain lane on Oct. 14 in Henry County, Ga. Griffin is from McDonough, Ga. All charges appear to be misdemeanors.
Griffin has been a leader on the Thunder football team this year and crossed over the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season during the Thunder’s playoff game against Vermilion Community College last week.
Keith Turner, FDLTCC athletic director and football coach, said Wednesday that he knew of the charges and was “letting it run its course” through the legal system, waiting for the courts to determine if Griffin is guilty or not.
If Griffin is found guilty by the courts, Turner said the school and the coaching staff would follow Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System (MnSCU) guidelines regarding discipline. According to Turner, if a student athlete is found guilty of a crime, he or she would be suspended from the team, but not from school.
